Disclaimer
Last updated 15 September 2026
A short page about the limits of what we produce. It matters more than most disclaimers, because an assessment is an opinion about risk and it is easy to read one as more than that.
An assessment is an opinion
A Clarifyd assessment is our analyst’s professional judgement of risk, formed on the material available at the time. It is not a statement of fact about the person assessed, not an accusation, and not a finding that anyone has done anything wrong.
A high rating means the indicators present warrant closer attention. It does not mean the person is a criminal. A low rating means nothing in the material raised concern — not that nothing exists to find.
It reflects what it was given
We assess the documents and information supplied. We do not audit them, and we cannot see what was not provided. A document that was withheld, a relationship that was not disclosed, or a fact that emerged afterwards can change the answer entirely.
An assessment describes a moment. Circumstances change, and a rating does not update itself.
Not advice
Nothing we produce is legal, financial, accounting or tax advice.
If you are a reporting entity, your obligations under the AML/CTF Act stay yours, including customer due diligence, ongoing monitoring and reporting suspicious matters. Obtaining an assessment does not discharge any of them, and we do not advise on building a compliance programme.
Identity verification
What a check tells you depends on which one was run.
- AML screening shows whether a name and date of birth match someone on a PEP or sanctions list. It does not confirm anyone's identity.
- A standard check confirms an identity document and address match government and credit records. It can't confirm the person presenting them is their owner.
- A biometric check also matches the person's face to the document and checks they were really there. It is strong evidence, not certainty.
- A pass means the checks we ran succeeded. It does not guarantee the person is who they claim.
- A fail is often an administrative mismatch — a changed name, an outdated address — rather than fraud, and is worth asking about before drawing conclusions.
Third-party sources
Some of what an assessment relies on comes from external sources, including government and credit records reached through our verification provider. We rely on them in good faith and cannot warrant that a third-party record is accurate or current.
Decisions are yours
Whether to go ahead with someone, decline them, or report a matter is your decision. We give you the material to make it, but we do not make it for you. Our liability is set out in our Terms, which keep your rights under the Australian Consumer Law.
